  The Rovan 5B Large Scale RC Buggy combines high-speed performance with durability for serious off-road enthusiasts. This 1/5 scale 29cc two-stroke gasoline buggy delivers thrilling acceleration and precise control, making it perfect for backyard bashing, desert racing, and hobby-grade RC fun. These are the new 2024 High Strength Grade A models—not factory seconds, grade B, or older models.

  Assembly and Operation

  Out of the Box

  The Rovan 5B is ready to race once the wheels are installed and the battery is charged. Minimum 2-hour charge recommended.

  Battery Charging

  The car features a charging plug and USB charger. No disassembly required. Allow the battery to cool for 30 minutes after full charge before operation. Remove charger within 30 minutes of full charge to prolong battery life. Store battery fully charged.

  Crash Durability

  Minor crashes are unlikely to cause significant damage. Personal experience with a 20MPH crash into a tree resulted in less than $20 in repairs.

  Fuel Mixing

  Uses a 25:1 gasoline-to-oil ratio. Fill the small compartment of the mixing jug to the 25:1 line with oil, then fill the gas compartment to the 25:1 line. Non-synthetic mineral 2-cycle oil recommended.

  Radio Setup

  The 6-channel radio primarily uses two channels for this vehicle. Trim adjustments are located under the cover on the back of the radio:

  • Top left: Steering trim

  • Top right: Throttle & brake trim

  • Bottom left: Control extents

  Large Scale RC Starting Instructions

  1. Ensure the car and radio are powered on and responding

  2. Set choke to vertical closed position

  3. Press primer bulb 3–4 times or until fuel is visible

  4. Gently pull starter rope until engaged, then pull swiftly

  5. Crank until engine fires (1–3 pulls)

  6. Turn off choke, then pull 1–2 times to start

  Gasoline Large Scale RC Break-In Process

  • Initial Run: Idle to 1/4 throttle for ~5 minutes; let engine cool

  • Second Run: 10 minutes at low throttle; allow to cool

  • Third Run: Push slightly harder, run 8–10 minutes; cool

  • Subsequent Runs: Repeat ~5 times, monitoring debris and cooling

  • Final Break-In: Full throttle for one tank; check exhaust pipe after

  Large Scale RC Maintenance Notes

  Check bolts before each run. Use lock-tight on clutch and brake assembly bolts. Clean bolts and holes with alcohol for proper adhesion. Avoid upgrading critical parts to aluminum—high-strength ABS plastic provides resilience and absorbs impacts better.
