Overview of the 1/5th Scale Rovan 5T Baja Truck Platform
The 1/5th Scale Rovan 5T Clear Body Baja Truck is a gasoline-powered RC platform built for drivers who want strength, speed, and large-scale realism in a ready-to-run configuration. Powered by a robust 32cc two-stroke engine, this truck delivers strong torque, aggressive acceleration, and reliable performance. As a result, the 1/5th Scale Rovan 5T excels in off-road environments while offering the durability required for repeated high-impact use.
Clear Body Design (note: comes with black wheel beads) and Custom Paint Options for 1/5th Scale Builds
-
This 1/5th Scale Baja truck includes a clear polycarbonate body that is ready to be painted from the inside. The exterior surface features a protective plastic film that should be removed after painting to reveal a glossy finish. In addition, masking the windows and applying paint or airbrushing from the inside allows you to create a fully custom look. Because of this design, each 1/5th Scale build can reflect a unique personal style.
Size, Scale, and Chassis Design of the 1/5th Scale Rovan 5T
Built to full 1/5th Scale proportions, this Baja truck offers an imposing stance and excellent stability. The body measures approximately 38.19 inches long, 17.32 inches wide, and 13.39 inches high, which helps keep the chassis planted during high-speed runs. In addition, the 22.44 inch wheelbase and wide track widths of 15.55 inches in front and 15.75 inches in the rear support balanced weight distribution and predictable handling.
Structural Layout and Reinforcement for 1/5th Scale Use
The chassis incorporates second-generation reinforced front and rear suspension mounting points designed to handle repeated impacts. Because these components flex instead of cracking, they protect critical drivetrain parts during rough use. Moreover, front and rear anti-roll bars help control body movement, which improves stability during cornering and acceleration.
Engine and Drivetrain Performance of the 1/5th Scale Rovan 5T
Power comes from a 32cc two-stroke, four-point fixed gasoline engine engineered for reliability and strong low-end torque. This engine pairs with a Dominator exhaust pipe to deliver responsive throttle control and an aggressive exhaust note. As a result, the 1/5th Scale Rovan 5T provides both performance and realism during operation.
Rear-Wheel Drive and Power Transfer
The drivetrain uses a rear-wheel-drive layout with a rear axle brake for controlled stopping power. An 8000 RPM wear-resistant clutch manages power delivery efficiently, while a metal clutch tripod and reinforced half-axles support durability. Consequently, the drivetrain handles high loads during acceleration without sacrificing control.
Differential and Axle Components
A metal differential case strengthens one of the highest-stress areas of the drivetrain. In addition, 0.35 inch dog bone half-axles and symmetrical steering geometry improve power transfer and steering consistency. Together, these components allow the 1/5th Scale truck to maintain stability during aggressive driving.
Suspension, Wheels, and Handling Characteristics of the 1/5th Scale Platform
The suspension system plays a major role in how the 1/5th Scale Rovan 5T performs off-road. Carefully selected components balance durability with predictable handling.
Suspension System and Shock Design
Second-generation reinforced front and rear suspension arms work with 0.24 inch plastic shock absorbers to absorb impacts. Because the suspension compresses smoothly, the truck maintains traction over uneven terrain. In addition, anti-roll bars reduce chassis lean, which improves control during fast directional changes.
Wheels and Tires
The truck uses 5T and 5SC third-generation road tires mounted on five-spoke wheel hubs with closed dome nuts. As a result, the wheels remain secure during high-speed operation while delivering consistent grip. This setup supports stable driving across mixed surfaces.
Electronics and Control System for the 1/5th Scale Rovan 5T
The electronics package focuses on strength and reliability, ensuring consistent control under demanding conditions.
Steering and Throttle Servo System
This 1/5th Scale Rovan 5T includes a 15KG full metal gear throttle servo and a powerful 60KG metal gear steering servo. Because of this setup, steering remains responsive even under load, while throttle input stays precise. These servos resist wear during extended run sessions.
2.4G Radio Control Operation
The included non-LCD 2.4G six-channel RC-X6 radio primarily uses two channels for operation. Trim adjustments are located under the rear cover, allowing drivers to fine-tune steering and throttle response. As a result, setup remains straightforward while offering flexibility for adjustment.
Battery and Power Support System for the 1/5th Scale Truck
A SC6V 2000 mAh battery supplies power to onboard electronics. Because the battery charges easily and provides consistent output, downtime between runs stays minimal. Proper charging and storage practices help extend battery life over time.
Assembly and Operation of the 1/5th Scale Rovan 5T
Out of the Box: Ready to race once the wheels are installed and the car battery has been charged. Minimum 2 hours charge recommended.
Battery Charging
The car features a charging plug and comes with a USB charger. No disassembly required for charging. Allow battery to cool down for 30 minutes after full charge before operation. Remove charger within 30 minutes of full charge (green light) to prolong battery life. Store battery fully charged. Recommended Countdown Timer: https://shorturl.at/FdYdP
Crash Durability
Minor crashes are unlikely to cause significant damage. These trucks are tough and designed to handle aggressive off-road driving.
Fuel Mixing Requirements for the 1/5th Scale Rovan 5T
Uses a 25:1 gasoline-to-oil ratio (151.4 ml per gallon). First, fill the small compartment of the mixing jug to the 25:1 line with oil. Then, fill the gas compartment to the same line. As a result, the engine receives proper lubrication. Use non-synthetic, mineral-based 2-cycle oil. Other suitable brands may also be used.
Radio Setup and Adjustments
This 6-channel radio essentially only uses 2 channels with this truck. Trim is on the four adjustments under the cover on the back of the radio. Top left controls steering trim, top right controls throttle and brake trim, bottom left adjusts steering control extents, and bottom right adjusts throttle control extents.
Starting Instructions for the 1/5th Scale Rovan 5T
Ensure the car and radio are powered on and responding.
Set the choke on the right side of the car (red lever on the carburetor) to the vertical closed position.
Press the primer bulb on top of the carburetor 3 to 4 times, or once fuel is visible.
Gently pull the starter rope until it engages, then pull swiftly. Do not pull the rope out completely; use short quick pulls.
Crank until the engine fires (usually 1 to 3 pulls).
Turn off the choke, then pull the rope 1 or 2 times to start the engine.
Never crank more than 3 times with the choke on.Break-In Process for the 1/5th Scale Rovan Baja Truck
Initial Run: Start by running the car at idle to 1/4 throttle or less for about 5 minutes. Let the engine cool down completely after this run.
Second Run: Repeat the same process for 10 minutes, then allow it to cool down.
Third Run: You can start pushing it a little harder. However, keep in mind that a new engine generates more heat due to increased friction. Run for 8 to 10 minutes, then let it cool.
Subsequent Runs: Continue the process for about five runs, being mindful of any debris that could block cooling. A clean engine runs cooler.
Final Break-In: After these runs, you can run the car at full throttle and let it burn through an entire tank of fuel.
Post-Break-In: Be sure to check and snug up the exhaust pipe after the initial break-in process.
Before each run check bolts throughout the car to ensure they are tight. Lock-tight is recommended on clutch and brake assembly bolts. Clean bolts and holes with alcohol and a Q-tip to ensure proper lock-tight adhesion.
You will be tempted to upgrade some parts to aluminum. However, aluminum is unforgiving and can break while damaging surrounding components. High-strength ABS plastic will flex and bounce back without damage, which is why many plastic components perform better in off-road conditions.
