Description
Gas RC Rovan 5B 1/5 Scale Overview
The Gas RC Rovan 5B is a true 1/5 scale gasoline buggy engineered for mechanical realism, durability, and dependable off-road performance. Powered by a proven 29cc air-cooled two-stroke engine, this Gas RC platform delivers strong low-end torque, smooth throttle response, and authentic gasoline sound. As a result, it performs consistently on dirt, grass, gravel, and wide-open terrain.
Rovan builds this Gas RC buggy with current-generation components and reinforced hardware. Consequently, it maintains long-term reliability while remaining easy to service and tune, making it suitable for extended bashing sessions and controlled high-speed runs.
Chassis, Drivetrain, and Suspension
The Rovan 5B uses a rear-wheel-drive layout with a rear axle brake, which simplifies maintenance while improving durability. In addition, a metal differential and an 8000 RPM clutch manage power delivery smoothly under load. Second-generation reinforced front and rear suspension components enhance stability, while updated wasteland tires on second-generation wheels increase traction across mixed surfaces.
High-torque metal gear servos control both steering and throttle. Therefore, steering response remains precise and throttle modulation stays predictable during aggressive acceleration.
Engine and Exhaust Performance
At the core of this platform is a 29cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, two-stroke gasoline engine. The engine produces usable torque throughout the power band, while the Dominator exhaust pipe improves throttle response and durability. As a result, acceleration remains controlled even under sustained load.
Electronics and Radio System
A 2.4G six-channel RC-X6 radio system delivers stable signal performance and extended range. Although only two channels are required for operation, the additional channels allow for future upgrades. Moreover, a 6V SC2000 mAh battery supplies consistent voltage to the electronics throughout each run.
Assembly and Operation – Gas RC
Out of the Box: Ready to race once the wheels are installed and the car battery has been charged. A minimum two-hour charge is recommended.
Battery Charging:
The Gas RC buggy includes a charging plug and USB charger, so charging requires no disassembly. Allow the battery to cool for 30 minutes after a full charge before operation. Remove the charger within 30 minutes of reaching full charge to extend battery life. Store the battery fully charged when not in use.
Crash Durability:
Minor crashes rarely cause significant damage. The chassis and suspension absorb impacts effectively during normal off-road driving.
Fuel Mixing – Gas RC
Use a 25:1 gasoline-to-oil ratio, equal to 151.4 ml of oil per gallon of gasoline. First, fill the oil chamber of the mixing jug to the 25:1 mark. Then, fill the gasoline side to the same level. Use non-synthetic, mineral-based two-cycle oil. Other compatible mineral oils may also be used.
Radio Setup and Operation
This six-channel radio primarily uses two channels. Trim adjustments are located under the rear transmitter cover and control steering trim, throttle and brake trim, steering travel, and throttle travel.
Starting Instructions
Ensure the car and radio power on and respond correctly.
Set the choke to the vertical closed position.
Prime the carburetor three to four times, or until fuel becomes visible.
Pull the starter gently until engagement, then use short, quick pulls.
Once the engine fires, turn off the choke and pull again to start.
Break-In Process – Gas RC
Initial Run: Idle to one-quarter throttle for approximately five minutes, then allow the engine to cool completely.
Second Run: Repeat the process for ten minutes, then cool down.
Third Run: Increase throttle slightly and run for eight to ten minutes, then cool.
Subsequent Runs: Continue for about five cycles while monitoring airflow and debris.
Final Break-In: Run at full throttle and burn through one full tank of fuel.
Post-Break-In: Check and snug the exhaust pipe.
Before each run, inspect all bolts and fasteners. Apply thread locker to clutch and brake bolts after cleaning threads with alcohol.
Although aluminum upgrades may appear attractive, aluminum transfers impact energy and can cause secondary damage. High-strength ABS plastic flexes and recovers, making it better suited for off-road use.
