Description
Large Scale Truck Overview and Platform Design
This Large Scale Truck delivers true race-ready performance in a durable 1/5 scale platform designed for aggressive off-road use. Built around a powerful 36cc gasoline engine and reinforced drivetrain, this Rovan short course truck provides strong torque, high stability, and realistic large-scale driving dynamics. As a result, it suits experienced drivers who want dependable performance with minimal setup.
Large Scale Truck Engine and Power System
At the core of this Large Scale Truck is a 36cc four-point fixed gasoline engine engineered for consistent output and long service life. The Dominator side exhaust improves throttle response while producing an aggressive exhaust note. In addition, the 800cc large-capacity fuel tank supports extended run times, allowing longer sessions without frequent refueling.
Power transfers through a shaft-driven transmission system with front, center, and rear differentials. Because of this three-stage differential layout, power delivery remains smooth and controlled even under heavy load and rough terrain.
Chassis, Drivetrain, and Durability of the Large Scale Truck
The chassis uses a 5mm CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum alloy plate with a hard-anodized finish for strength and rigidity. Furthermore, a metal clutch cup support cover and reinforced drivetrain components help manage the high torque produced by the engine. Front CVD drive shafts and a rear shaft-head style drive shaft improve durability during hard acceleration.
A full protective anti-roll cage surrounds the internal components. Consequently, critical parts stay protected during rollovers and high-impact crashes.
Suspension, Wheels, and Handling Characteristics
This Large Scale Truck features 7mm hydraulic shocks paired with front and rear anti-tilt bars. Together, these components control chassis movement while maintaining traction across uneven surfaces. As a result, the truck remains predictable during cornering and high-speed runs.
High-performance nail off-road tires provide strong grip on dirt, gravel, and loose terrain. In addition, metal front and rear shock absorber brackets increase suspension strength under repeated impacts.
Electronics and Control System
A 2.4GHz six-channel RC-X6 radio system controls steering and throttle functions. Although only two channels are required for operation, the additional channels allow future expansion. Moreover, dual 60KG metal gear servos with CNC metal steering arms deliver precise steering and reliable throttle control even under load.
Power for onboard electronics comes from a 6V 4500mAh NiMH battery, which provides stable voltage and long operating time.
Assembly and Operation
Out of the Box: Ready to race once the wheels are installed and the car battery has been charged. Minimum 2 hours charge recommended.
Battery Charging
The car features a charging plug and comes with a USB charger. No disassembly required for charging. Allow battery to cool down for 30 minutes after full charge before operation. Remove charger within 30 minutes of full charge (green light) to prolong battery life. Store battery fully charged. Recommended Countdown Timer: https://shorturl.at/FdYdP
Crash Durability
Minor crashes are unlikely to cause significant damage. These cars are tough.
Fuel Mixing
Uses a 25:1 gasoline-to-oil ratio (151.4ml per gallon). Fill the small compartment of the mixing jug to the 25:1 line with oil, then fill the gas compartment to the same line. Use non-synthetic, mineral-based 2-cycle oil. Other suitable brands may also be used.
Radio Setup
This 6-channel radio essentially only uses 2 channels with this Large Scale Truck. Trim adjustments are located under the rear radio cover. Top left controls steering trim, top right controls throttle and brake trim, bottom left adjusts steering control extents, and bottom right adjusts throttle control extents.
Starting Instructions
Ensure the car and radio are powered on and responding.
Set the choke on the right side of the car (red lever on the carburetor) to the vertical closed position.
Press the primer bulb on top of the carburetor 3 to 4 times, or once fuel is visible.
Gently pull the starter rope until it engages, then pull swiftly. Do not pull the rope out completely; use short quick pulls.
Crank until the engine fires (usually 1 to 3 pulls).
Turn off the choke, then pull the rope 1 or 2 times to start the engine.
Never crank more than 3 times with the choke on.
Break-In Process for the Large Scale Truck
Initial Run: Start by running the truck at idle to 1/4 throttle or less for about 5 minutes. Let the engine cool down completely after this run.
Second Run: Repeat the same process for 10 minutes, then allow it to cool.
Third Run: Begin applying slightly more throttle, while monitoring engine temperature. Run for 8 to 10 minutes, then let it cool.
Subsequent Runs: Continue the process for approximately five runs, ensuring airflow remains clear. A clean engine runs cooler.
Final Break-In: After these runs, operate the Large Scale Truck at full throttle and allow it to burn through an entire tank of fuel.
Post-Break-In: Check and snug the exhaust pipe after the initial break-in cycle.
Before each run, check bolts throughout the vehicle to ensure they remain tight. Use thread locker on clutch and brake assembly bolts. Clean bolts and holes with alcohol and a cotton swab before applying thread locker.
You may feel tempted to replace plastic components with aluminum parts. However, aluminum transfers impact energy and can damage surrounding components. High-strength ABS plastic flexes and rebounds, which often provides better real-world durability.
