Overview
The Rovan 5B Blue 1/5 Scale 29cc 2-Stroke Gasoline Baja Buggy delivers large-scale RC performance with reliability and durability. These are the new High Strength Grade A models, not factory seconds or older units. Built for speed, control, and endurance, it offers both novice and advanced hobbyists an exceptional driving experience.
Engine and Performance
Powerful 29cc Two-Stroke Engine
Equipped with a 29cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, two-stroke engine, the Rovan 5B reaches speeds over 40 MPH in stock configuration. The 997 carburetor fits 23–32cc Zenoah, CY, HPI BAJA, RV KM 5B, 5T, 5SC engines for flexibility and performance.
Steering and Suspension
The buggy features all-metal gear throttle and steering servos (plastic case), second-generation reinforced front and rear suspension, and 6mm shocks. This combination ensures precise handling, stability, and resilience on rough terrain.
Tires and Wheels
It comes with second-generation Wasteland tires on second-generation wheel hubs for superior grip and longevity.

Assembly and Operation
The Rovan 5B Blue is Ready to Run
Out of the box, the buggy is ready to race after installing wheels and charging the battery for at least 2 hours.
Battery Charging
Charging is simple with the included USB charger—no disassembly required. After full charge, allow 30 minutes for cooling and remove the charger to extend battery life.
Fuel Mixing
Uses 25:1 gasoline-to-oil ratio. Fill the oil compartment to the line, then the gas compartment. Non-synthetic mineral-based 2-cycle oil is recommended, such as Evinrude Johnson Premium 2-Stroke Oil, to minimize carbon buildup.
Radio
The 6-channel radio primarily uses 2 channels. Adjust trims under the back cover: top-left steering, top-right throttle/brake, bottom-left steering control extents.
Starting Instructions
-
Ensure car and radio are powered on.
-
Set the choke to the vertical closed position.
-
Press the primer bulb 3–4 times.
-
Pull the starter rope gently until engaged, then pull quickly.
-
Crank until the engine fires (1–3 pulls).
-
Turn off choke, pull 1–2 times to start.
Rovan 5B Blue Break-In Process
-
Initial Run: Idle to 1/4 throttle for 5 min, cool completely.
-
Second Run: 10 min, then cool.
-
Third Run: 8–10 min, slightly higher throttle, then cool.
-
Subsequent Runs: Repeat 5 runs, keeping debris away from cooling fins.
-
Final Break-In: Full throttle for one tank, then check exhaust pipe.
Maintenance Tips
Check bolts before each run. Use lock-tight on clutch and brake assembly bolts. Clean threads with alcohol for optimal adhesion.
Upgrading your Rovan 5B Blue
Avoid aluminum upgrades on suspension or drivetrain; high-strength ABS plastic absorbs impacts without catastrophic failure. Many plastic parts are more durable than aluminum.
