Rovan D5 Buggy Overview and Performance

The Rovan D5 delivers 1/5 scale RC performance with extreme durability and precise handling. Powered by a ROFUN 36cc single-cylinder dual-loop air-cooled two-stroke gasoline engine, the Rovan D5 Buggy ensures smooth throttle response, reliable torque, and consistent power for off-road racing. Rovan D5 Chassis and Drive System

This buggy features a 3/16″ CNC integrated hard anodized aluminum alloy chassis combined with a 4WD shaft drive system. The front and rear metal differentials, middle straight drive large gear, CNC brackets, and metal clutch cup support provide maximum stability while maintaining precise control during aggressive driving.

Rovan D5 Electronics and Servos

The Rovan D5 Buggy is equipped with an 80lb digital metal gear throttle servo (CNC double-sided straight arm) and dual 80lb digital metal gear steering servos with CNC servo arms. The included BER-TRC4 LCD display remote controller and 6V SC4500mAh NiMH battery ensure accurate control and long-lasting operation for high-speed runs.

Rovan D5 Buggy Exhaust, Fuel, and Accessories

It comes with a stainless steel exhaust pipe, integrated clutch cup, and an 8000 RPM wear-resistant clutch. The large 700ml injection-molded oil bottle allows easy 25:1 gasoline-to-oil mixing using mineral-based TC-W3 2-cycle oil, minimizing carbon buildup and plug fouling.

Assembly and Operation of the Rovan D5 Buggy

Out of the box, the Rovan D5 Buggy is ready to race once the wheels are installed and the battery is charged for at least 2 hours. The built-in charging plug and USB charger allow simple charging without disassembly. Always allow the battery to cool for 30 minutes after a full charge and remove the charger within 30 minutes of the green light. Minor crashes are unlikely to cause damage due to the reinforced chassis.

Radio Trim and Starting Instructions

Although the radio is 6-channel, only two channels are used. Adjust steering and throttle trims under the rear radio cover. To start: power on the buggy and radio, set the choke vertical, prime 3–4 times, pull the starter rope short and firm until the engine fires, then turn off the choke and restart.

Break-In Process for the Rovan D5 Buggy

• Initial Run: Idle to 1/4 throttle for 5 minutes, then cool.

• Second Run: Light throttle for 10 minutes, then cool.

• Third Run: Slightly harder throttle for 8–10 minutes, then cool.

• Subsequent Runs: Gradually increase throttle over 5 runs.

• Post-Break-In: Full throttle operation is safe; check and snug exhaust bolts.

Maintenance and Upgrade Guidance

Check all bolts before each run. Apply Loctite on clutch and brake fasteners after cleaning with alcohol. Avoid replacing plastic components with aluminum; ABS flexes to absorb impact while aluminum can damage surrounding parts. Many plastic components perform better under heavy use.

Owner Notes on the Rovan D5 Buggy

Not only am I the owner of 5TRC, I am an enthusiast myself, and I can tell you the Rovan D5 is one of my favorite cars to run. It is fast and has exceptional handling. I have had a couple of horrendous crashes, and to my absolute amazement, there was no damage that required replacement parts. Here is a video of one of them.
