The Rovan Q Shorty features a 4-point fixed mounting chassis constructed from high-strength ABS plastic combined with metal components for critical load areas. The rear-wheel drive system includes a metal differential, 0.35-inch replaceable axle-pin half-shafts, and CNC metal rear shock absorber crossbar, delivering stability and precise handling during high-speed runs.

Rovan Q Shorty Electronics and Servos

Equipped with an 18KG (39.7 lbs) full metal gear throttle servo and a 60KG (132.3 lbs) metal gear steering servo (plastic shell), the Rovan Q Shorty ensures precise control. The 2.4GHz 6-channel remote control offers reliable operation up to approximately 492 feet, powered by a built-in SC6V 2000mAh battery. The remote uses 4xAA batteries (not included).

Rovan Q Shorty Exhaust, Fuel, and Accessories

The Rovan Q Shorty includes a Dominator exhaust pipe, 8000 RPM clutch, and new ratio pot. Fuel requires a 25:1 gasoline-to-oil mixture using mineral-based TC-W3 2-cycle oil to reduce plug fouling and carbon buildup. A 700ml injection-molded oil bottle facilitates precise mixing. All-terrain knobby tires and 0.24-inch shock absorbers enhance off-road handling.

Assembly and Operation of the Rovan Q Shorty

Out of the box, the buggy is ready to race once the wheels are installed and the battery charged for at least 2 hours. The built-in charging plug and USB charger allow easy battery charging without disassembly. Allow the battery to cool for 30 minutes after charging, and remove the charger within 30 minutes of the green light. Minor crashes are unlikely to cause damage due to the reinforced ABS plastic and metal construction.

Radio Trim and Starting Instructions

Although the radio is 6-channel, only two channels are used. Adjust steering and throttle trims under the rear cover. To start: power on the buggy and radio, set the choke vertical, prime 3–4 times, pull starter rope firmly until engine fires, then turn off the choke and restart.

Break-In Process for the Rovan Q Shorty

• Initial Run: Idle to 1/4 throttle for 5 minutes, then cool completely.

• Second Run: Light throttle for 10 minutes, then allow to cool.

• Third Run: Slightly higher throttle for 8–10 minutes, then cool.

• Subsequent Runs: Gradually increase performance over about five runs.

• Post-Break-In: Full throttle operation is safe; check and snug exhaust pipe.

Maintenance and Upgrade Guidance

Check all bolts before each run. Use Loctite on clutch and brake assembly bolts after cleaning with alcohol. Avoid replacing plastic components with aluminum; ABS flexes to absorb impact while aluminum can damage surrounding parts. Many plastic components perform better under stress.
