Overview of the Rovan WLT Platform
The Rovan WLT 1/5 scale RC Truck Blue #3 is a high-performance gasoline-powered off-road truck built for drivers who demand power, traction, and durability in a ready-to-run package. Designed around a robust 36cc two-stroke engine and a full four-wheel-drive system, this platform delivers aggressive acceleration, confident control, and long run times. As a result, the Rovan WLT stands out as a serious large-scale RC truck for demanding terrain and extended driving sessions.
Size, Scale, and Chassis Design for the Rovan WLT
Built to a true 1/5 scale, this large-scale RC truck offers an imposing stance and excellent stability. The overall dimensions measure approximately 965 × 527 × 311 mm, which helps keep the chassis planted during high-speed runs and rough off-road use. In addition, the 440 mm wheelbase and 615 mm axle distance support balanced weight distribution and predictable handling, even under heavy throttle.
Chassis Construction and Structural Components of the Rovan WLT
The chassis uses a 5mm CNC-machined one-piece 6061-T6 aluminum alloy design with a hard-anodized finish. Because of this construction, the frame resists flex while maintaining strength under load. Moreover, metal front and rear shock brackets reinforce suspension mounting points, while the easy-to-remove full protective roll cage adds impact protection and serviceability.
Engine and Drivetrain Performance of the Rovan WLT
Power comes from a 36cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, two-stroke gasoline engine with a four-point fixed mounting design. This engine delivers strong low-end torque and sustained power, which suits the weight and size of a large-scale truck. In combination with the LT exhaust pipe, throttle response remains crisp while the exhaust note stays aggressive and realistic.
Four-Wheel Drive System and Power Delivery for the Rovan WLT
The Rovan WLT uses a full-time four-wheel-drive shaft system designed to maximize traction across loose and uneven terrain. Front, center, and rear differentials distribute power effectively, while the dual-disc differential brake mode improves stopping control. Consequently, the drivetrain supports stable acceleration, controlled braking, and consistent handling during demanding off-road use.
Clutch and Transmission Layout
An 8000 RPM wear-resistant clutch with a metal cup support cover manages power transfer efficiently. The transmission uses a front CVD half shaft and a rear axle-type half shaft, combined with a new-structure center differential bracket. As a result, power delivery remains smooth while drivetrain components maintain durability during extended run sessions.
Suspension, Tires, and Handling Characteristics of the Rovan WLT
The suspension system plays a major role in the Rovan WLT’s off-road capability. Heavy-duty components allow the truck to absorb impacts while maintaining traction and stability.
Hydraulic Shock and Anti-Roll System for the Rovan WLT
This platform uses 7mm hydraulic shock absorbers paired with front and rear anti-roll bars. Because of this setup, body roll is reduced during cornering while suspension travel remains effective over rough terrain. In addition, reinforced suspension geometry improves control during jumps and uneven surfaces.
Wheels and Off-Road Tires
High-performance Shredder off-road tires provide strong grip on dirt, gravel, and mixed terrain. Combined with the wide stance of the truck, these tires improve forward bite and lateral stability. Consequently, the Rovan WLT maintains control during aggressive driving.
Electronics and Radio Control for the Rovan WLT
The electronics package emphasizes strength, precision, and reliability, allowing confident operation under demanding conditions.
Steering and Throttle Servo System for the Rovan WLT
The truck is equipped with 60KG metal gear throttle and steering servos paired with CNC metal servo arms. As a result, steering authority remains strong even under heavy load, while throttle response stays consistent. These components resist wear during high-stress operation and long run times.
2.4G Radio Control System for the Rovan WLT
The included non-LCD 2.4G six-channel RC-X6 radio system provides reliable signal control for large-scale operation. Although this vehicle primarily uses two channels, the additional channels allow future expansion. Trim adjustments are located under the rear cover of the transmitter, enabling precise tuning of steering and throttle response.
Battery and Fuel System for the Rovan WLT
A 6V 4500mAh NiMH battery supports extended run time for onboard electronics. Because this battery offers higher capacity, it reduces interruptions during long driving sessions. In addition, the 800cc ultra-large-capacity fuel tank allows longer runs between refueling stops, which suits large-scale off-road driving.
Assembly and Operation for the Rovan WLT
Out of the Box: Ready to race once the wheels are installed and the car battery has been charged. Minimum 2 hours charge recommended.
Battery Charging
The car features a charging plug and comes with a USB charger. No disassembly required for charging. Allow battery to cool down for 30 minutes after full charge before operation. Remove charger within 30 minutes of full charge (green light) to prolong battery life. Store battery fully charged. Recommended Countdown Timer: https://shorturl.at/FdYdP
Crash Durability
Minor crashes are unlikely to cause significant damage. These cars are tough and designed to handle aggressive off-road use.
Fuel Mixing Requirements for the Rovan WLT
Uses a 25:1 gasoline-to-oil ratio (151.4 ml per gallon). First, fill the small compartment of the mixing jug to the 25:1 line with oil. Then, fill the gas compartment to the same line. As a result, the engine receives proper lubrication. Use non-synthetic, mineral-based 2-cycle oil. We have had great results with Evinrude Johnson Premium TC-W3 Mineral 2 Cycle Oil, UPC 745419363093, available at Walmart in 1-gallon or 16 oz sizes. Other brands can also be used.
Radio Setup and Adjustments
This 6-channel radio essentially only uses 2 channels with this truck. Trim is on the four adjustments under the cover on the back of the radio. Top left controls steering trim, top right controls throttle and brake trim, bottom left adjusts steering control extents, and bottom right adjusts throttle control extents.
Starting Instructions for the Rovan WLT
Ensure the car and radio are powered on and responding.
Set the choke on the right side of the car (red lever on the carburetor) to the vertical closed position.
Press the primer bulb on top of the carburetor 3 to 4 times, or once fuel is visible.
Gently pull the starter rope until it engages, then pull swiftly. Do not pull the rope out completely; use short quick pulls.
Crank until the engine fires (usually 1 to 3 pulls).
Turn off the choke, then pull the rope 1 or 2 times to start the engine.
Never crank more than 3 times with the choke on.Break-In Process for the Rovan WLT
Initial Run: Start by running the car at idle to 1/4 throttle or less for about 5 minutes. Let the engine cool down completely after this run.
Second Run: Repeat the same process for 10 minutes, then allow it to cool down.
Third Run: You can start pushing it a little harder. However, keep in mind that a new engine generates more heat due to increased friction. Run for 8 to 10 minutes, then let it cool.
Subsequent Runs: Continue the process for about five runs, while being mindful of any debris that could block cooling. A clean engine runs cooler.
Final Break-In: After these runs, you can run the car at full throttle and let it burn through an entire tank of fuel.
Post-Break-In: Be sure to check and snug up the exhaust pipe after the initial break-in process.
Before each run, check bolts throughout the car to ensure they are tight. Lock-tight is recommended on clutch and brake assembly bolts. Clean bolts and holes with alcohol and a Q-tip to ensure proper lock-tight adhesion.
You may be tempted to upgrade some parts to aluminum. However, aluminum is unforgiving and can break while damaging surrounding components. High-strength ABS plastic will flex and bounce back without damage, which is why many plastic components perform better in off-road conditions.
