Description
Short Course Truck Overview
The Rovan 1/5 scale BLT platform delivers true large-scale performance in a race-ready Short Course Truck configuration. Designed for serious off-road drivers, this gasoline-powered truck combines durability, power, and scale realism. As a result, it performs confidently on dirt, gravel, and open terrain while maintaining predictable handling at speed.
Built around a robust chassis and proven drivetrain layout, this Short Course Truck arrives ready to run after basic setup. Moreover, the platform supports aggressive driving without sacrificing reliability, making it suitable for both experienced hobbyists and dedicated bashers.
Short Course Truck Engine and Power System
Power comes from a 36cc four-point fixed gasoline engine engineered for strong torque and consistent output. Because the engine delivers usable low-end power, acceleration remains controlled while top-end speed stays impressive. In addition, the Dominator side exhaust pipe enhances throttle response and produces an aggressive exhaust note.
An 8000 RPM wear-resistant clutch manages power delivery efficiently. Consequently, the drivetrain handles repeated launches and sustained runs without excessive heat buildup. The large 800cc fuel tank further extends runtime between refueling stops.
Drivetrain and Differential Layout
This Short Course Truck uses a shaft-driven transmission system with front, center, and rear differentials. As a result, power distributes evenly across the drivetrain, improving traction under varying conditions. The dual-disc differential brake system provides controlled stopping power without sudden lockup.
Front CVD drive shafts and rear axle-style shafts support durability under heavy load. In addition, the reinforced differential bracket structure improves long-term reliability during high-stress operation.
Chassis, Suspension, and Handling
A 5mm CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum chassis forms the foundation of the truck. Because the chassis resists flex, it maintains stability during high-speed runs and hard landings. Front and rear anti-roll bars further control chassis movement, which improves cornering consistency.
The suspension system uses 7mm hydraulic shocks mounted to metal front and rear shock brackets. As a result, impacts are absorbed smoothly while tire contact remains consistent. The full protective roll cage shields internal components and adds structural rigidity during rollovers.
Electronics and Control System
The included 2.4GHz six-channel RC-X6 radio system provides reliable signal control at distance. Although the truck primarily uses two channels, the radio allows trim and endpoint adjustments for fine-tuning steering and throttle response. Dual 60KG metal gear servos with CNC metal servo arms deliver precise steering control and dependable throttle response under load.
A 6V 4500mAh NiMH battery powers onboard electronics and supports extended run sessions. Because charging is straightforward, downtime between runs remains minimal.
Short Course Truck Wheels and Tires
High-performance off-road tires provide strong traction across loose and compact surfaces. Mounted to durable wheels, the tire setup supports aggressive driving while maintaining predictable grip. As a result, the truck tracks straight under acceleration and remains stable through corners.
Assembly and Operation
Out of the Box: Ready to race once the wheels are installed and the car battery has been charged. Minimum 2 hours charge recommended.
Battery Charging
The car features a charging plug and comes with a USB charger. No disassembly required for charging. Allow battery to cool down for 30 minutes after full charge before operation. Remove charger within 30 minutes of full charge (green light) to prolong battery life. Store battery fully charged. Recommended Countdown Timer: https://shorturl.at/FdYdP
Crash Durability
Minor crashes are unlikely to cause significant damage. These cars are tough!
Short Course Truck Fuel Mixing
Uses a 25:1 gasoline-to-oil ratio (151.4ml per gallon). Fill the small compartment of the mixing jug to the 25:1 line with oil, then fill the gas compartment to the 25:1 line. Use Non-synthetic aka Mineral Based 2 cycle oil. We’ve had great results with Evinrude Johnson Premium TC-W3 Mineral 2 Cycle Oil, UPC 745419363093 Available at Walmart in 1-gallon or 16oz, which minimizes carbon buildup and avoids plug fouling. Other brands can also be used.
Radio
This 6-channel radio essentially only uses 2 channels with this car. Trim is on the 4 adjustments under the cover on the back of the radio. Top left – steering trim, top right – throttle & brake trim, bottom left – steering control extents, bottom right – throttle control extents.
Starting Instructions
Ensure the car and radio are powered on and responding.
Set the choke on the right side of the car (red lever on the carburetor) to the vertical closed position.
Press the primer bulb on top of the carburetor 3 to 4 times, or once fuel is visible.
Gently pull the starter rope until it engages, then pull swiftly. Do not pull the rope out completely; use short quick pulls.
Crank until the engine fires (usually 1 to 3 pulls).
Turn off the choke, then pull the rope 1 or 2 times to start the engine.
Never crank more than 3 times with the choke on. (refer to https://shorturl.at/RJv1I)
Short Course Truck Break-In Process
Initial Run: Start by running the car at idle to 1/4 throttle or less for about 5 minutes. Let the engine cool down completely after this run.
Second Run: Repeat the same process less for 10 minutes, then allow it to cool down.
Third Run: You can start pushing it a little harder, but keep in mind that a new engine generates more heat due to increased friction. Run for 8 to 10 minutes, then let it cool.
Subsequent Runs: Continue the process for about five runs, being mindful of any debris that could block cooling. A clean engine runs cooler.
Final Break-In: After these runs, you can run the car at full throttle and let it burn through an entire tank of fuel.
Post-Break-In: Be sure to check and snug up the exhaust pipe after the initial break-in process.
Before each run check bolts throughout the car to ensure they are tight. Lock-tight is recommended on clutch and brake assembly bolts. clean bolts and holes with alcohol and a q-tip to ensure lock-tight adhesion.
Durability Philosophy
You will be tempted to upgrade some of the parts to aluminum. But let me tell you, aluminum is unforgiving, breaks and destroys everything behind it. The High Strength ABS Plastic will give and bounce back without damage. Many plastic components are way better.
