Description

  • Overview of the RTR Buggy RC Platform

The RTR Buggy RC Rovan 5B Orange #44 is a true 1/5 scale gasoline-powered off-road buggy built for drivers who want size, realism, and reliable performance without complex setup. These are genuine high-strength Grade A models, not factory seconds, not grade B units, and not older or knockoff versions. Because this ready-to-run buggy uses proven Rovan and Rofun engineering, it delivers strong torque, realistic sound, and consistent handling across dirt, gravel, and rough terrain.

    Size, Scale, and Chassis Design

Built on a true 1/5 scale platform, this large-scale off-road buggy offers stability and visual presence. The overall size measures approximately 32 1/8 inches long, 18 7/8 inches wide, and 10 inches high, which helps the chassis stay planted during acceleration and cornering. In addition, the wheelbase measures about 22 3/8 inches center-to-center, so weight distribution remains balanced during high-speed operation.

    Suspension and Wheel System

The chassis uses second-generation reinforced front and rear suspension with 6mm shocks. As a result, the buggy absorbs rough terrain while maintaining predictable control. Second-generation wasteland tires mounted on second-generation wheel hubs further improve traction and durability. Consequently, this suspension and tire combination supports confident driving during aggressive off-road use.

    Engine and Drivetrain Performance

Power comes from a 29cc single-cylinder, air-cooled gasoline two-stroke engine designed for durability and strong low-end torque. In stock configuration, this platform exceeds 40 MPH. Because the engine uses a four-bolt fixed mounting design and a tuned exhaust pipe, throttle response remains crisp while power delivery stays consistent.

    Clutch, Differential, and Drive Layout

This setup uses an 8,000 RPM clutch and a rear-wheel-drive layout that delivers classic Baja-style handling. A metal differential and rear axle brake manage power efficiently during acceleration and braking. Therefore, the drivetrain supports both performance driving and long-term reliability.

Electronics and Radio Control for the RTR Buggy RC

The electronics system emphasizes strength and control so drivers can operate confidently under demanding conditions. High-torque steering components and a proven radio system ensure predictable response without unnecessary complexity.

    Steering Gear and Servo System

The vehicle includes all-metal gear throttle steering gear and a metal gear steering gear housed in a plastic case. Together, these components provide strong steering authority while maintaining durability during impacts and high-load operation.

    2.4GHz Radio Control System

The included 2.4GHz remote control is a six-channel transmitter, although this vehicle primarily uses two channels. It has been tested at distances exceeding 600 feet without issues. Trim adjustments sit under the cover on the back of the radio. The top left dial controls steering trim, the top right dial controls throttle and brake trim, the bottom left dial adjusts steering control extents, and the bottom right dial adjusts throttle control extents. The transmitter requires four AA batteries, which are not included.

    Battery and Power System

A built-in SC6V 2000mAh battery supports extended run time for onboard electronics. Because the battery system is easy to charge and maintain, downtime between runs stays minimal.

    Assembly and Operation

Out of the Box: Ready to race once the wheels are installed and the car battery has been charged. Minimum 2 hours charge recommended.

    Battery Charging

The car features a charging plug and comes with a USB charger. No disassembly required for charging. Allow battery to cool down for 30 minutes after full charge before operation. Remove charger within 30 minutes of full charge (green light) to prolong battery life. Store battery fully charged. We use a countdown timer like item 386419780550 on ours.

    Crash Durability

Minor crashes are unlikely to cause significant damage.

    Fuel Mixing

Uses a 25:1 gasoline-to-oil ratio (151.4 ml per gallon). Fill the small compartment of the mixing jug to the 25:1 line with oil, then fill the gas compartment to the 25:1 line. Use non-synthetic, mineral-based 2-cycle oil. We have had great results with Evinrude Johnson Premium TC-W3 Mineral 2 Cycle Oil, UPC 745419363093, available at Walmart in 1-gallon or 16 oz sizes. This oil minimizes carbon buildup and avoids plug fouling. Other brands can also be used.

    Radio

This 6-channel radio essentially only uses 2 channels with this car. Trim is on the four adjustments under the cover on the back of the radio. Top left is steering trim, top right is throttle and brake trim, bottom left is steering control extents, and bottom right is throttle control extents.

Starting Instructions for the RTR Buggy RC

Ensure the car and radio are powered on and responding.
Set the choke on the right side of the car (red lever on the carburetor) to the vertical closed position.
Press the primer bulb on top of the carburetor 3 to 4 times, or once fuel is visible.
Gently pull the starter rope until it engages, then pull swiftly. Do not pull the rope out completely; use short quick pulls.
Crank until the engine fires (usually 1 to 3 pulls).
Turn off the choke, then pull the rope 1 or 2 times to start the engine.

    Break-In Process

Initial Run: Start by running the car at idle to 1/4 throttle or less for about 5 minutes. Let the engine cool down completely after this run.

Second Run: Repeat the same process for 10 minutes, then allow it to cool down.

Third Run: You can start pushing it a little harder. However, keep in mind that a new engine generates more heat due to increased friction. Run for 8 to 10 minutes, then let it cool.

Subsequent Runs: Continue the process for about five runs, while being mindful of any debris that could block cooling. A clean engine runs cooler.

Final Break-In: After these runs, you can run the car at full throttle and let it burn through an entire tank of fuel.

Post-Break-In: Be sure to check and snug up the exhaust pipe after the initial break-in process.

Before each run, check bolts throughout the car to ensure they are tight. Lock-tight is recommended on clutch and brake assembly bolts. Clean bolts and holes with alcohol and a Q-tip to ensure proper lock-tight adhesion.

You will be tempted to upgrade some parts to aluminum. However, aluminum is unforgiving and can break while damaging components behind it. High-strength ABS plastic flexes and rebounds without damage, so many plastic components perform better in off-road conditions.
